All About Marketing on the Internet

The internet has not only given us a way to spend our free time, but has become a marketers dream.

Internet Marketing now makes up the majority of marketing done by major institutions.  From SEO, to Pay Per Click to Social Media Marketing — the smartest marketers in the world are leveraging the power of the internet to grab new customers.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is driving traffic to your website, not by paying for any direct advertising, but creating quality content that gets shared on social media.  Creating quality content is not easy.  There are thousands of new blog posts and articles created every single day.

How Does Content Marketing Work?

Content Marketing is not only the creation of new content, but the syndication of that content on social media.  This content is usually not directly promoting a product or service, but is informative.  The goal here is to create traffic to your website, providing some information that has value.  In the best instance, the user is somewhat targeted and ends up visiting other pages on your site.

Content Marketing and SEO

SEO or Search Engine Optimization, is being found organically in search results.  Content marketing can be the driving factor behind ranking well on Google and other search engines.

Once search engines see that people are coming to your site (from your content marketing) they pay attention.  If you have internal links from your quality content that points to internal pages where you may be selling a product or service, Google will ultimately give those pages authority.

Paid Internet Marketing

There are hundreds of different types of paid internet marketing.  This could be directly purchasing clicks from Google with a Google AdWords campaign, a Facebook paid advertisement and thousands of other options.  The goal with this type of advertising on the web is TARGETING.

Targeted Advertising on the Internet

In the old days of advertising, it was crucial to get your product or service in front of as many people as possible.  If you were selling bicycles, you may run an ad in the newspaper and hopefully a portion of the readers would have an interest in bikes.

Today, the web advertising is all about targeting.  You want to only have your ad seen by people directly interested in your product. The more targeted you get, the more effective your advertising spend is.

Facebook

Facebook lets you choose a target audience that will see your ad.  Facebook uses thousands of data points that advertisers can use to display their product or service to.

Google

Google uses the power of their search engine.  In our above example of bicycles, if someone uses Google to search for Bicycles for sale, they can show you ad Ave the organic search results.
