In the old days of advertising, it was crucial to get your product or service in front of as many people as possible.  If you were selling bicycles, you may run an ad in the newspaper and hopefully a portion of the readers would have an interest in bikes.

Facebook lets you choose a target audience that will see your ad.  Facebook uses thousands of data points that advertisers can use to display their product or service to.


Google uses the power of their search engine.  In our above example of bicycles, if someone uses Google to search for Bicycles for sale, they can show you ad Ave the organic search results.
